Rock Climbing is an Adventuresome, Intense Activity
Rock climbing is intense and fun. It is a great addition to any natural-fitness lifestyle and has the odd effect of being simultaneously a very calming and invigorating activity. It is hard to put the feeling into words.
However, do not just jump into it. If you are overweight or otherwise out of shape, please do not start with rock climbing as your primary natural exercise activity! If you are just starting out in exercise, please condition yourself thoroughly with bodyweight calisthenics and other natural exercises before you even think of attempting rock climbing.
You want to 1) be as light as possible, 2) have strong hands and 3) have an unshakable confidence. If you are heavy, have weak hands, or easily freeze up in high places, forget it (for now). Really. I have foolishly gone rock climbing without thorough conditioning when I was younger, and I was not using clips and ropes either. I have fallen a long way once when I went at nighttime with not even moonlight to illuminate my path (very foolish!). I have found myself stuck in an almost impossible spot, again without ropes and clips or even a helmet or proper rock-climbing shoes, with no safe spot beneath me to land on, and no good grip above me to hoist me up. Had I fallen, I would have felt what it was like to fall 30 or 40 feet, and possibly never lived to tell the tale. Only by the grace of God did I get through that scenario. It is not a position I ever want to find myself in again, and I implore you, dear readers, not to undertake rock climbing until your conditioning reaches a certain level.
Having said that, if you are a beginner to exercising naturally, and you find the prospect of rock climbing quite alluring, be assured that if you train hard, over time you WILL become strong and conditioned enough to enjoy the sport of rock climbing, and will be ever grateful you chose to train first. Have a DESIRE to be lean and strong, have FAITH that you can do it, STUDY the natural exercise methods portrayed in this website, TRAIN hard, and believe you me, you WILL become very successful!
